Baofeng UV-9R Plus (Hardware)
If you get into amateur radio there are two devices you’ll probably not get past.
- For listening an RTL-SDR USB stick
- For sending a Baofeng
The most famous Baofeng is the UV-5R, but I got myself an UV-9R Plus. Why?
Well, that was the one available at that time.
Antenna
The connector on the device is SMA male. So the antenna needs to be SMA Female.
Be careful if you use a long, high set antenna in a crowded place (city) the input could be too big and overcharge components.
Contacts
Since the device is marketed as waterproof you don’t have any jacks, but contacts on the side, covered by an easy to unscrew screw.

Accessories
- Headphones
- Data cable
The headphones consist of one earplug with a microphone and a button. On the other end you have a 6 pin contact (connecting to contacts 1, 3, 4, A, B, C).
The data cable consists of two cables:
- USB to double jack (3,5mm stereo and 2,5mm stereo)
- double plug (fitting to the above) to 6 pin contact (connecting to contacts 1, 3, 4, A, B, C)
Double jack connectors:
- 2,5mm: Headphones
- 3,5mm: Microphone
